  • Feeding Guidelines for Rabbits

Small animals (such as rabbits) are herbivores that thrive on a grass-led, plant based diet. In the wild, rabbits have access to different foods, which is why it is very important that we replicate this diet inside our homes.

    Feeding guide for rabbits

A healthy rabbit diet should consist of:

    • 80 to 90% high quality and highly nutritious rabbit hay

    • 5 to 10% of rabbit safe pellets

    • 5 to 10% of leafy, green vegetables

    How much to feed

In terms of quantities, as a guide, a portion of the best quality rabbit hay which is equal to their own body size should be fed per day, however free choice is preferable.

    Feeding directions

Feed fresh hay alongside a suitable species-specific dry food (fed at the recommended rates), making sure to remove any uneaten or spoiled hay daily. Contamination of hay can be reduced by providing it in racks, bags or other safe hay feeders. Clean fresh water should be available at all times and fresh vegetables provided.

    2. Allow your hay to breathe (but don't worry, our boxes are designed to be breathable)

    3. Use bins or storage boxes as a suitable alternative storage solution

If stored correctly, our hay can be fed for up to 18 months after purchase. You will always find the best before dates on the back of pack.
